Our history

First named ‘The Volleydots’ back in the days, Netzo is a volleyball club which was established in the 1980s.
For over 30 years Netzo is a symbol of openness, inclusiveness and diversity in Amsterdam. The club evolved over the years and currently has more than 200 active members.
Our members originate from 25+ different nationalities, male, female, transgender, young, old and from every sexual orientation.
The name “Net Zo” literally expresses what we stand for as an association, namely that everyone is equal and welcome.

Netzo Board

Training

We train on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Our trainings are given by experienced trainers, aimed at improving your volleyball game. Netzo offers different levels of training groups, depending on your skill level. Have you played for many years or just starting to learn? No worries, we have training groups for every level.
Beside the training under the eye of an experience trainer, Netzo offers also recreative volleyball. This is the excellent moment to play volleyball and improve your game!

Volleyball

Competitions

Teams from Netzo actively participate in regional and international competitions. We are broadly represented at NeVoBo in the Amsterdam region.
Here, we compete with 16 teams of which 2 women’s team and 14 men’s teams. That actually makes us the biggest volleybal club at NeVoBo region Amsterdam!

Netzo teams also take part in the yearly BeNeLux ‘homocompetition’. Here our teams play at different levels to compete against other teams.

Sinterklaas Tournament

Yearly we organise our own Sinterklaas Tournament. This populair tournament welcomes players from all over Europe who compete on the volleyball court. Every year we attract over 300 international players to the Sinterklaas Tournament. The weekend is jam-packed with volleyball, fun, drinks, party and friendship. For the tournament weekend Netzo offers hosted housing for teams from abroad looking for a place to stay.

Whenever the indoor volleyball seasons comes to an end, we relocate to the outside. Under the warmth of the sun we play beach volleyball twice a week. In the mids of the summer, Netzo organizes a beach volleyball tournament!

Netzo FAQ

Netzo is the first Amsterdam’s LGBTQIA+ volleyball club — a place to play, grow, laugh, flirt (just a little), and compete (sometimes a lot).
We’re all about volleyball, community, and good vibes — on and off the court.

Originally founded in the 1980s under the name The Volleydots, Netzo has grown into a vibrant symbol of openness, inclusiveness, and diversity in Amsterdam for over 30 years.
Today, we’re proud to have over 200 active members from 25+ nationalities, including players of all genders, ages, and sexual orientations. Whether you’re male, female, trans, non-binary, queer, straight, young, or young-at-heart — you’re welcome here.

The name “Net Zo” means “just like that” or “just the same” in Dutch — a reminder that everyone is equal, and everyone belongs.
With a community of more than 200 players, we’re not just a club — we’re one of the largest, queerest volleyball families in town.

Nope!
We’re a queer club — but you don’t need to be queer to play.
Just be yourself and respect everyone else doing the same.

Trans and non-binary players are warmly welcome at Netzo.
We actively work to create a safe, respectful, and supportive space, both within the club and during matches. If you join NEVOBO competition, you can play under the gender you’re registered as Netzo— and we fully support that.

For more informations, please feel free to contact us.
Inclusivity isn’t just a word here — it’s how we play.

Think: inclusive, social, safe, slightly shady (in a loving way), and fun as hell.

Yes, people are competitive. Yes, there’s some playful banter.

But it’s all done with respect, support, and a lot of laughs.
The club is as fun as you make it.

Netzo has two main options:

Recreational: For casual players who want to have fun, move a little, and meet new people.

NEVOBO (Nederlandse Volleybalbond): For more committed players. You’ll need to attend most matches (about 8–10 per season), running from end of August to December & January to end of May.

Being part of Netzo gives you:

One training per week (Tuesday or Friday)

One weekly “free play” session (drop-in style, more relaxed)

Matches, if you’re part of NEVOBO

Fun social events all year long – we’re a volleyball club and a social club (We even have a boat for Pride 2025!)

A wider circle of queer-friendly friends and teammates

Cost: €180 (Regular training) / €270 (Training & NEVOBO) per year and 50% off if you re a student

YES!

We welcome all level.
You’ll likely start with the recreational trainings, and if you love it (you will), you could eventually move into a NEVOBO team

Yes! Once you sign up, you’ll be invited to a tryout to assess your level.
We’ll place you in the right team or training group — Netzo welcomes all skill levels, from absolute beginners to experienced players.

You can register on our website in the ‘Join us’ section.

Note: there is currently a waiting list — we’re popular, darling!

If you’re aiming to join NEVOBO, you’ll usually start in recreational training first, and if a spot opens up and your level matches, you’ll be placed in a team.

Already an experienced player (3rd class or higher)?
Let us know during registration — you may be eligible to join NEVOBO directly.

Tryouts help us place you in:

Division Play teams (for NEVOBO matches), this year we have 14 teams from first to sixth class.

Individual Power or Team Power classes (training-based)

All you need to do is fill in your registration, show up on time, and we’ll take it from there.
Our sweet volunteers will guide you the whole way.

Seasons begin end of August / early September.

Heads up – there’s a waiting list, so sign up early!
We’re in demand, what can we say?

Want to play? Ready to serve?
See you on the court!
